There are 126.1 million households in the US[1].
This study[2]
indicates that 211 million Americans owned lawn and garden equipment, which
corresponds to roughly ⅔ of the US population. Therefore we go on to assume that
approximately ⅔
of households have lawn and garden equipment or ~80 million households. We
assume that of these 80 million households, roughly half of them own some form
of lawn-mower (others may have just a leaf-blower, trimmers, etc.). This study3
estimates that manual lawn-mowers are ~ 6% of total lawn-mower sales. Therefore
there are ~2.4 million households that would own manual lawn-mowers.
As this is a niche product we
assume that our product would be able to obtain ~ 5% market share within this
space, or roughly 120,000 units. We estimate that each household would purchase
one BladeRoller on average every 5 years. Thus we estimate our estimated
production volume to be ~25 ,000 units (annually).
